Overview

Joseph Michael first impressed my eyeballs with the launch of his Dark Cloud / White Light timelapse photography series. It was a Heruclean feat of endurance which saw him hike out to twelve remote, beautiful vantage points in New Zealand and spend 24 hours in each in order to create a day-long timelapses of his chosen settings. It was stunning, and his name rightfully made the rounds - 130,000 New Zealanders gathered to view his exhibition.

Michael's new exhibition, Antarctica, will see the fragile continent projection mapped onto important buildings in ten major cities around the world in 2016. Michael describes it as “a cinematic collision of nature and architecture." The installation will also be interactive, Michael controlling different parts of the visuals in a live capacity, "it'll be like going to the cinema, but the director will be sitting in the cinema with you and can change the scene or visuals or sounds of the film while you're watching.”

As a pre-release to this massive endeavour which aims to promote the untouched beauty of the continent that's shrinking by the year, Michael will showcase a single edition series of prints which form part of the larger Antarctica project.
