Overview

What's bigger than Fashion Week, has wide ranging appeal and won't cost you a cent to attend? Art Week Auckland 2012.

Watch the city transform into a melting pot of creativity as artist and art lovers come out in force. You'll find exhibitions and events all over the city, in central, east and west suburbs.

You can walk the Ponsonby Mile, where you'll see stores featuring installations by viusal artists, and if you're feeling energetic, there are 2 hour Art Week walking tours in Parnell and K'Rd. Don't fancy walking? You can also tour galleries and public artworks by bicycle.

There are numerous artist talks and a speight of new exhibitions, as well as a number of interactive events. You'll find creative sessions at the Auckland Art Gallery, art writing workshops, art speed dating and even a chance to make art and swap it with a stranger.

Highlights include the Living Room, a real hit in past years, featuring live performances, video installations and soundscapes that will turn Aotea Square into a veritable artistic hub. Then there's the Joystick Orchestra, which uses joysticks to perform visual and sound pieces. Also keep an eye out for Cinema Politica, which is offering a selection of local and internationalvisual arts documentaries screening at the Britomart Country Club.

To make sure you don't get lost in the milieu of creative madness, maps are available on the website. You'll also find an interactive calendar so you can keep track of everything you want to see. A word of advice, lots of the events require bookings, so you'll have to get in quick to secure a place.
