Overview

As part of Auckland Festival of Photography 2012: Talking Culture Sunday Series, here is a rare opportunity to hear from self-taught photographer Sam Harris whose work has featured in Esquire, Dazed and Confused and GQ among many others. Born and raised in the suburbs of South London, in his late teens he made a darkroom and experimented nightly while listening to records. Combining these passions led him to start freelancing in the London music industry in the early 90s, making album sleeve art.

In 2002 however, he re-evaluated his lifestyle and photographic direction and left London with his family to travel for several years. During this period he began the process of turning his camera inwards. In 2008 he settled with his family in the forests of South Western Australia. He now shoots personal projects, commissions and teaches photography.
