Overview

Aptly themed 'from waterways to motorways' the Auckland Heritage Festival returns this year showcasing the legacy of transport and travel in Tāmaki Makaurau.

Encouraging even the biggest of city slickers to venture outdoors, more than 165 events will be held across the city between September 30 and October 15, spanning walks, talks, workshops and exhibitions.

Our picks include touring Piha's World War II radar station, a behind the scenes look at art conservation at the Auckland Art Gallery and 'K' Road presents: a tribute to Las Vegas' an evening of anecdotes about one of the strips most iconic images (the pin-up girl marking the entrance to the Las Vegas strip club).

While the festival might be a look at the city in retrospect, events are also a celebration of how far we have come and progressive events covering topics historically 'too taboo' make us all the more proud to be free and Kiwi.
