Overview

Rumour has it that the New Zealand arm of record label EMI dumped their vinyl pressing machinery in Wellington Harbour after the introduction of the CD. The label bosses will now likely be kicking themselves seeing that the musical format has made a resurgence in the past few years. From 2013 to 2014 alone the sales of vinyl rose a whopping 51.8%, with 9.2 million units being sold. Local independent record stores have also reported a five-fold increase in vinyl sales.

A gathering of local enthusiasts will take place on Saturday 14 March, with all things vinyl being celebrated. Last taking place in October, the Auckland Record Collectors Vinyl Fair will host stalls selling wax of all genres, including some rare gems and crowd favourites.

Music will be played from vinyl sources all day; there will be giveaways up for grabs; sausages and other culinary treats will be on hand courtesy of Liane; a record cleaning machine will be on continuous cycle; and a number of record aficionados will be on hand to help with turntable setup, and sound system advice.
