Overview
If whitebait fritters and waterfront fireworks sound like your bag, then reel yourself in to the Auckland Seafood Festival this month. Over three days, the Halsey Wharf will celebrate the country’s most celebrated fare from the sea with pop-up stalls, live music and chef demonstrations.
More than 100 seafood dishes will be on offer across 50 stands, including things from great depths that you didn’t even know about. There will be live demonstrations at the Cooking Theatre with Masterchef winner Brett McGregor, sushi specialist Chef Akira Kugue, Chef Mark Southon from the Foodstore among plenty of others. Fishing celeb Graeme Sinclair will be on hand to give tips on how to bring in the big one and will watch over the kids in the morning as they take part in the Tradezone Kids Gone Fishin’ at Wynyard Quarter.
Attendees can also take part in wishing the country’s fishing fleet a safe and prosperous year ahead as they leave the harbour, take part in a fish filleting competition or watch hilarity unfold as locals try and slide along a greased-up pole suspended above the harbour.
A line-up of Kiwi acts including Opshop’s Jason Kerrison, the Jordan Luck Band and Phil Madsen will be on hand to entertain the crowds and a fireworks display will sign off day two on Sunday 25 January at 9.30pm.
