'Back to the Future' In Concert
The APO is performing award-winning composer Alan Silvestri's dazzling musical score live.
UPDATED 9 September, 2020: Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra has now moved this event to Saturday, 21 November, 2020.
In time for its 35 anniversary, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra is taking audiences Back to the Future. Recharge your flux capacitor, folks — you'll be able to experience the original film in Robert Zemeckis's time travel trilogy like never before as the APO performs the score from start to finish.
The original Back to the Future is arguably one of the greatest movies to come out of the 1980s. Join Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) as they journey to the past, present and future, and set off a time-shattering chain reaction that disrupts the space-time continuum.
The film will hit the big screen at Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre on Thursday, 10 September with the APO performing award-winning composer Alan Silvestri's dazzling musical score live. As an extra treat, the orchestra will bust out approximately 20 minutes of brand-new music added by Silvestri to the film's score, especially for these live orchestra presentations.
Conductor Vincent Hardaker says, "Most people know the film, but what many people perhaps don't realise is that the score was quite legendary on its own. Alongside the well-known hits, like Huey Lewis' 'The Power of Love', is an epic orchestral score. It's going to be a fun night in the theatre with the APO, celebrating a cult classic."
