Bonobo

The downtempo pioneer is back, this time with a full band.

Overview

Last appearing on our shores in 2015 as a lone DJ, British producer Bonobo will return this July with his full band. The one-off performance comes in support of the artist's sixth album, Migration— a "study of people and spaces".

As well as tipping his hat to one of the world's great endangered apes, the UK-based DJ, musician and producer (real name: Simon Green) effortlessly incorporates sample layers with complex basslines; creating that signature minimalist sound he's inspired budding producers with worldwide. Since the release of his completely self-produced and self-instrumented debut Animal Magic in 2000, Bonobo has released six full-length albums and a handful of EPs and singles — becoming somewhat of a downtempo pioneer in the process.

Bonobo's previous release The North Borders saw him play over 175 shows across three continents and 30 countries. This tour will check in to some of the world's biggest festivals, including Coachella and Fuji Rock. Prior to hitting the road the band spent two weeks polishing the live show, something that has since been called "one of the biggest and most subtle electronic music performances you can get".

For the band's performance at Auckland's Great Hall they will be joined by British producer Romare.
