Overview

The dance music scene can be a fickle place to make a living; a pulsing, volatile underworld where new genres are invented seemingly by the hour. With over a decade of success as a DJ and producer, both here and around the globe, local drum and bass icon Bulletproof is a qualified veteran. When the dubstep revolution took hold of club music and the goalposts shifted again, Bulletproof made the genre his own. His latest effort Dub Me Crazy, propelled dubstep from out of the shadows and into the mainstream, rocketing up the New Zealand charts in the process.

Joined by the soulful Jessie G on live vocals, Bulletproof’s atmospheric, anthemic sound is on display first hand at the album release party, hosted by Coherent on October 15. Alongside him is a veritable who’s who of local dubstep, featuring Rugged Tekniques, Jason Howson and DJ Grind.

Dub Me Crazy has instant appeal – when the eponymous single debuted to a raucous crowd at last year’s Rhythm & Vines festival there were thousands signing the chorus by the end of the song.  Amidst the production line of generic beats that can sometimes permeate the industry, Bulletproof’s unique take on dance music’s newest craze is a breath of fresh air. The album release promises to be a massive night at one of Auckland’s best venues.
