Overview
CAMERA Season of Photography has just kicked off at Auckland Museum, showcasing an impressive collection of the best wildlife images from New Zealand and around the world.
Make sure you’ve got time on your hands as there are over 100 images in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition, as well as a selection of Aotearoa’s finest from New Zealand Geographic. The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition, presented in conjunction with the Natural History Museum of London and BBC Wildlife magazine, is really well curated which makes it both informative and engaging. The images are grouped into categories, each accompanied by a short statement from the photographer along with technical details, giving you real insight into how every shot was captured.
The NZ-LIFE exhibition, sourced from the past 3 New Zealand Geographic Photographer of the Year competitions, is made up of photographs of wildlife, landscape and culture. You can try your hand at being a photography editor with the interactive displays, or relax in the Camera Lounge afterwards and peruse one of the many photography books there.
There are loads of events for both children and adults, including a series of free talks from professional photographers in the camera lounge and the chance to make your very own pinhole camera. There's definitely something for everyone and it’s well worth the visit.
