Overview

Marking Chinese New Year and the Year of the Dog, SKYCITY is hosting a streak of themed celebrations this month. The Auckland Night Markets will arrive at the precinct every Friday in February with an array of Asian-inspired street food stalls. Bring your appetite and sample cuisines from the far east, including dim sum, dumplings and noodles. It will be just the second time the Night Markets have appeared in the CBD — the first took place on Shortland Street last December.

A jam-packed entertainment program will kick off under the Sky Tower from February 15. The plaza will become the stage for lion dancers, dragon dancers, Chinese acrobatics, calligraphy and balloon artists from 7-8pm every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Federal Street Chinese restaurant Huami will offer an authentic set menu, specially designed for Chinese New Year, and on Chinese New Year Day (February 16) a traditional 'painting of the eye' ceremony and lighting of firecrackers will be held to bring good luck and ward off evil spirits.
