Chuseok
A night of eating and drinking to mark Korean Thanksgiving.
Overview
The team behind Parnell's Simon and Lee and Newmarket's The Candy Shop opened Gochu in June, spotlighting natural wine, twisted classic cocktails and modern Korean food. This month, the bar and restaurant is throwing down a set menu with all the trimmings to mark Chuseok (추석), or Korean Thanksgiving.
Chuseok is a major harvest festival and three-day holiday in both North and South Korea. The occasion is traditionally observed with friends and family and built around an abundance of rice wine and food.
On Sunday, 27 September, Gochu's night of eating, drinking and celebration will commence as chef Jason Kim serves up a Chuseok feast to rule them all. On the night guests will have the opportunity to sample clam soup, braised deckle steak, leek and black pudding hotdogs, mushroom japchae and more.
Makgeoli (Korean rice wine) will be flowing, and Gochu's famed cocktail and natural wine list will be in full swing. The Chuseok set menu is $45 per head. Bookings are essential and can be made through the Gochu website.
