Cover Lover

Inspiration, appropriation, re-interpretation… or just good old stealing.

Overview

History has a long tradition of borrowed ideas. From remakes of old classics movies, songs that were covered and made famous by other people, and the resurgence of '50s rockabilly fashion. Apparently even Shakespeare took much of his inspiration from playwrights that lived long before he was born.

Because no ideas are new ideas and because there's nothing better than walking into a bar and hearing yet another cover band playing Bon Jovi's Livin' On A Prayer, All You Can Eat Productions and a bunch of 25 of Auckland actors, dancers and musicians plan to steal, honour and interrogate the work of others in their new theatre piece, Cover Lover.

The piece was created by Jessie McCall and features cover versions of cover versions and remakes of remakes from: Rose Philpott, Sofia McIntyre, Anitra Hayday, Katie Burton, Amanda Tito, David Toomey, Amelia Grey, Phoebe Heyhoe, Tallulah Holly-Massey, Hamish Parkinson, Jenny Postles, Lydia Connolly-Hiatt, Nick Von K,  Paloma Schneideman, Tim Mcpoland, Phoebe Borwick, Kim Gruebner, Ahi Karunaharan, Kate Castle, Malvina Domar, Jaya Robertson, Jenny de Leon, Ora Lefebvre, Jane Willison, Miller Yule, Rosa Strati, Connor Strati and Lucy Lynch.
