There’s no easy way to say goodbye to our favourite things/people/places, but a damn good party sweetens the deal.

Overview

When Ponsonby music haunt Golden Dawn opened its doors eight years ago, nobody imagined the day they would finally shut for good. Many an epic time has been had at the venue, with some of Auckland's finest artists performing to intimate audiences. While the farewell may be a sad one, there is the opportunity to have a few more pints before the place becomes a fond memory.

Dance Til The Break Of Dawn: The Final Party will kick off at midday on Saturday 24 March, and event-goers are urged to arrive early as the place is expected to pack out pretty fast.

Join The Cuda Sisters, Nick "Big Poppa" Harrison, Mister Crawley and a beautiful collection of their talented friends for a party to remember. If you're late to the party, it'll only be a small tip of $10 from 8pm for a long night of fun and entertainment.

Some good news to come out of the closure is that a group of creatives have been capturing the bar's final days so that it can live on in the digital realm forever. The Tavern Of Power Project is an initiative spearheaded by Auckland audio engineer Bob Frisbee and his team at The Noisefloor. The aim of the project is to "capture a complete snapshot of the significant cultural hub". To do so, The Noisefloor team has been multi-track recording and multi-camera filming every single performance in the venue's final three months. All 69 shows.
