You've probably heard of blind dating and have perhaps even been on one yourself. But how about experiencing a romantic dinner with your significant other or a complete stranger in actual darkness?
The global phenomenon of dining in the dark was originally created in Switzerland by a blind clergyman. The absence of sight awakens senses and enables participants to completely reevaluate their perception of taste and smell. And in this case, connect at a deeper level without filters, judgement or swiping. French organisation Dans le Noir (In the Dark) has been hosting eyeless events at Rydges Auckland since March last year, including full-course sensory feasts, wine tasting and stand-up comedy.
The latest Dating in the Dark event will see 12 men and 12 women guided by blind hosts into a pitch black room where they will be treated to three surprise courses and one drinks while being encouraged to mingle.
