Overview
In a world where pixels are currency, provocative images of women seldom get a second look let alone a bat of an eyelid. Yet, amidst the fetishised and photoshopped, disabled women remain largely absent. Do you think I'm sexy? is an exhibition of photographic images which looks at the relationship between sexuality and disability.
In partnership with AUT University, CCS Disability Action hosts an exhibition which presents the thoughts and unique voice of four young female artists using photography as a medium to challenge societal assumptions about sexuality and disability.
“Society shows the perfect body – clothes, cleavage and boots. Having a disability – some days you feel that you have a junky, big metal wheelchair. The perfect body doesn’t have that. Instead soulfulness is sexier, more real. Someone sees you as you – that’s sexy”.
