Overview

Presented by the EcoMatters Environment Trust, EcoWest is a month-long celebration of the environment and the giant floating orb that we call home. More than 100 events will take place as part of this year's festival, giving Aucklanders an opportunity to get involved, show mother nature some love and learn something new.

The festival will kick off in true earth-hugging style with an openair cinema powered by bicycle. Held in the heart of Avondale, the twilight screening will feature locally made and thought-provoking short films. Food trucks and a licensed bar will be onsite for sustenance, and attendees will have the opportunity to burn it all off with ebike demonstrations. Bring your own mug for the free hot chocolate.

From there, the festival offers the perfect opportunity to pick up some new life skills, including how to make shopping bags from old t-shirts, cooking with the seasons, creating your own pickles and preserves, and making your own solid shampoo and soap bars.

Further highlights include A Night in the Bufferzone, an after-hours tour at Matuku Link with the goal of seeing glow worms, giant moths and bats in their natural habitat; Silent Disco Citywalk, an interactive, multi-sensory walk while listening to the pre-recorded entertainment; Re:Generate Fashion Market, a place to buy and sell pre-loved clothing and accessories; Everybody Eats' pay-as-you-feel series of community feasts; plus Green Bay's zero-waste street food festival.
