Inspired By Japan

Forget cabinet sushi.

Overview

If your idea of Japanese cuisine is punnet sushi from a chain named after one of the twelve apostles, think again. The Land of the Rising Sun is responsible for some of the world's most innovative, mouth-watering, soul-warming gastronomical delights — there's reason why the nation holds the title for highest number of Michelin-starred restaurants.

Set to lift everyday perceptions of Japanese cuisine beyond cabinet sushi and tempura, chefs from four of Auckland's best Japanese restaurants will come together for the ultimate feast next month.

Held at MASU on October 29, Inspired By Japan will unite Yukio Ozeki of Azabu which combines Peruvian, Japanese and Nikkei flavours; Makoto Tokuyama of high-end degustation restaurant Cocoro; Kazuya Yamauchi of Kazuya which offers Japanese-influenced European dishes; and Nic Watt of Federal Street robata restaurant MASU.

Diners will be treated to a four-course dinner showcasing each chef's unique style of Japanese cooking. The ticket price includes four courses and sake/wine matches.
