Overview
Those who miss the option of enjoying an after-hours snack at Ponsonby's Late Night Diner, can now relive those mid-clubbing feasts at a new dumpling pop-up inside Ponsonby Social Club's back bar.
Ghost Street Dumplings is named after the mistranslation of Beijing's famous late night food street Gui Jie — Gui being a food vessel and pronounced the same as ghost. Recreating the flavours of the 1.5 kilometre strip at the pop-up every Wednesday to Saturday will be dumpling maestro Ken who lived very closely to Ghost Street.
Chef Ken's menu will feature a small selection of classic dumplings for $12, including spinach and water chestnut momo, tofu with shitake and Chinese chives, roast duck and leek with hoison dipping sauce, beef and pickled radish potstickers, and pork and shrimp shao mai.
Craft beer on tap includes Hallertau's My Yakimoto, Garage Project's Pils 'n' Thrills, Liberty's Yakima Monster and Urbanaut's Brixton Pale Ale. Music is another major component of the pop-up and will see Ante Social's resident music director Roberto Mukai pull together a bunch vinyl from his personal collection.
Ghost Street Dumplings will be around for a limited run before it vanishes into thin air. Find it at Ante Social, 152b Ponsonby Rd, Ponsonby.
