Glorious Romp In The Basement

Words are like men, once you've got your tongue around them - they're yours for life..

Overview

Meet Gloria, a bored socialite with a rich father. Meet Jimmy, a writer working as a waiter at Gloria's father’s birthday party. In a case of what Gloria wants, Gloria gets, the play unfolds with an attempt at her upsetting her father by setting her sights on Jimmy. However, after heading down this flirtatious path she soon finds she is about to get more than she bargained for.

With a similar vein to the golden age of cinema, Glorious sees playwright Richard Huber skillfully blend sophistication, slapstick and social commentary. The play sings with sensuality and the whip-crack of 1940s screw-ball comedy.  The element of nostalgia in the show has an instant appeal to an older generation, but the rapid and sharp dialogue also plays towards contemporary audiences. The perfect take-your-parents play, and we all know that's an easy way to score brownie points and more often than not, a free dinner.

Glorious has been nominated for the Playmarket New Zealand Play award and received high acclaim to audiences in Dunedin and Wellington. Open for a solid run from 1 - 12th November at 8pm, there are more than enough reasons to get along to the Basement Theatre and tick off your weekly dose of the arts with this very New Zealand comedy.
