Overview

The prospect of releasing your music to friends and family is a daunting one, let alone the rest of world. Enter the Going Global Music Summit. Taking place across two days in September, the annual seminar and showcase is an opportunity for musicians, producers, composers, labels and promoters to gain insight into the workings of the international music industry.

Giving their two cents via a schedule of presentations, workshops and discussions will be an esteemed panel of industry professionals who are all currently working on the global stage. They include (in short): David Goldsen, A&R for Warner/Chappell Music Inc; Woody McDonald, the booker of Meredith and Golden Plains festivals; Lynne Christie, the founder of Wanaka’s Rippon Festival; Matthew Davis, the label manager of iconic NZ label Flying Nun; Lio Kanine, owner of Kanine Records; and Meredith Fraser, booking agent for Panachebooking. Registration for the two-day seminar is $75.

Come nightfall, a series of live music events will showcase some of our local talent. Multi-instrumentalist and composer Eden Mulholland will celebrate the opening of the event and the release of his new album Hunted Haunted with a performance at K'Road's Backbeat Bar on September 3. He will be joined by Dunedin alt-pop four-piece Ha The Unclear. Tickets are $15.

Eight artists will make up the bill the following night, performing across two stages at Bar 101 on Elliot Street. The eclectic line-up includes singer/songwriter Anthonie Tonnon, Cambridge rapper Diaz Grimm, Dunedin psychedelic-pop musician Kane Strang, melancholic folk act Nadia Reid, dream pop band Fazerdaze, alt-rock band New Gum Sarn, electro-pop songwriter SJD and Auckland beatmaker Suren Unka. Tickets are free with registration.
