The Barbarians are set to shake up The Civic with some counter-cultural comedy and wild hybrid dramatic techniques. Nothing is as it seems at this reverse theatre experience.

As you're led through the grandiose Civic Theatre, expect to see puppeteering one minute and a musical number the next — this immersive and interactive show will definitely keep you on your toes. Audiences may be required to climb stairs and move with the cast as there will be no seating provided. However, the show is wheelchair friendly, just be sure to let the venue know prior.

The Barbarians are a group comprised of both professional and amateur actors of all ages. Each performer brings an element of unique expertise, love for the stage and willingness to express radical politics while maintaining an endearing child-like demeanour.

Grand Opening was the company's contribution to Wellington's Cuba Dupa festival back in 2015, and it is now coming to Auckland by popular demand. For a fun evening out that won't break the bank, this is the perfect show.
