Overview

It's widely regarded that drinking hot tea before and during a meal helps kickstart the digestive system. Hence why you'll always be supplied with a steaming pot before chowing down on a mountain of dumplings.

While it may sound like a refreshment session with leftie politicians, Greens & Tea is a restaurant pop-up pairing modern Chinese-inspired vegan cuisine with organic teas. Over three nights, contemporary Chinese bun makers Judge Bao and organic tea advocates Silk Tea will come together inside Mt Eden's The Midnight Baker. The experience will be made up of five courses with a hot brew for each.

Menu items include: smashed cucumber paired with a milky oolong; silken tofu with brown rice green tea, genmaicha; char siu carrot with a highly nutritious GABA oolong; Xi'an-spiced pumpkin with the Japanese green tea, hojicha; and rice pudding with a matcha soy macchiato.

Judge Bao are best known for hawking irresistible contemporary Chinese food around the streets and markets of Auckland — notably their pillow-soft bao. Silk Tea produce organic teas which are chosen with care from local plantations. Super earth-friendly, they also use oxo-biodegradable pouches.
