Overview

Whether you're walking down the street, sitting on the bus or working out at the gym, the world is filled with people moving to their own music. So, it makes sense that silent discos have been making noise on an international scale. Inner city watering hole Habana Joe's will be bringing the craze to Auckland with their free entry Silent Disco Launch Party on 25 May.

The concept of silent discos can be traced back to eco-activists in the '90s as a way to minimise noise pollution and have since garnered popularity by becoming staples of Glastonbury and Coachella. Wireless headphones connect the listeners to specific playlists or a DJ. Like having their house to themselves, punters are then able to control what they listen to and dance to their heart's content.

Describing the upcoming event as a "quiet riot", Habana Joe's is ensuring that attendees will be able to dance to their own beat thanks to three genre channels and three DJs spinning on the night. Each colour will have its own channel, so you'll be able to get on everyone else's vibe or do your own thing. While drinks specials on the night mean that regardless of what you're listening to, you'll be cutting the best shapes.

Liberating yet immersive, silent discos are something that need to be experienced to be believed. Keep up to date with DJ announcements and more via the Facebook event.
