Overview

Irish films are almost always hilarious and heartwarming, and director John Butler's new film, Handsome Devil, looks to be no exception.

It's the story of a young, sexually ambiguous Irish chap named Ned who is sent to a rugby mad boarding school where he faces another term of ridicule and homophobic slurs at the hand of masculine footy players. An unlikely and at first hesitant friendship forms when he is forced to share a room with the ultimate jock— a transfer student named Conor. What follows is a warm and life affirming coming of age tale, featuring themes of self discovery and acceptance.

Critics have called it sweet, good hearted fun, immensely likeable and the straightest gay film ever, while praising its honest and positive approach to LGBQT issues. Expect a limited showing in Auckland, so don't miss Handsome Devil when it debuts here on April 27.
