Japanese Film Week 2013

Overview

Feel like doing something a bit different? The annual Japanese film festival is on again, bringing together some of the best and most interesting contemporary Japanese films. From robots to swords to the olympic games, the festival's films cover a range of topics, and the best part is it's all free.

Although they're all free, some screenings do require bookings. And don't worry, they all have English subtitles.

Abacus And Sword (Monday 25 November - 6:15pm)
A clever accountant is not your everyday sword fighting samurai. He defends and guides his family through hard times using the abacus as his weapon.

Lonely Yuichi finds a meets Yoshino on an online dating site, who he accidentally murders. Not coming to terms with what he's done, he continues on with his life and falls in love with another girl from the dating site.

Sawako Decides (Wednesday 27 November - 6:15pm)
Sawako has gone through many jobs and many boyfriends. After being called back to her hometown to take over the family business, she must decide what she really wants from life.

The life of a poor family struggling to provide, during 1964 when the Olympics in Tokyo are about to begin.

Three employees of the Kimura Electrical Company are scheduled to present a new robot prototype. When things go wrong, they hire an actor to put inside the robot suit.

Midori's Flying Goldfish (Saturday 30 November - 1:30pm) 
Midori's mother passes away so she moves in with her artist father, Youji. Midori doesn't get along with her new stepmother, so Youji draws a picture book to comfort his daughter.
