Overview
The newest exhibition inside Auckland's Art Gallery, Light Show explores the experiential and phenomenal aspects of light by bringing together artworks that use light to sculpt and shape space in different ways. The exhibition showcases work from the 1960s to the present day, including immersive environments, free-standing light sculptures, projections and intangible sculptures that you can move around and even through.
As part of the gallery's Artist Talks series, British-born, American-based Light Show artist Anthony McCall will be on hand to discuss his practice. Although his work spans sculpture, cinema, drawing and fire, the avant-garde artist is best known for his 'solid-light' installations, in which a volumetric form composed of projected light evolves in three-dimensional space. His work's historical importance has been internationally recognized in exhibitions across the globe.
