Overview

New Zealand-born, Melbourne based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Lisa Crawley is flying home from across the ditch to tour Up In The Air, her third EP released just last month. Working with Australian producer Ryan Ritchie, Crawley's choice of an EP over a full-length album was purely the desire and excitement to get finished work out on the airwaves.

Inspiration for Up In The Air was predominantly found while people watching at events and weddings - like many talented musicians, Crawley has clocked up plenty of experience moonlighting in clubs, bars and hotels around the world in order to fund her own original music and overseas travel, witnessing human behaviour along the way that has both charmed and appalled. Thankfully, it's provided rich material to channel into songwriting.

Crawley's songs are a thoughtful and clever brand of pop, with a smattering of jazz and indie irreverence. Her lyrics knowingly speak of her experiences; on 'Showgirl' Crawley tells of the persevering attitudes she encounters in the industry, hinting at being taken advantage of before tiredly flitting away with an "I wasn't born yesterday," retort. Likewise, 'Is There Something Wrong?' illuminates the downsides of a seemingly glamorous lifestyle. Title track 'Up In the Air' extols the virtues of a dark love that come from a position of weakness and loneliness, are her longing adorations reciprocated?
