Overview

Last year it was revealed that Australian craft brewery Little Creatures is opening a beer hall in Auckland. The opening is part of the multi-million dollar Catalina Bay development planned for the former RNZ Air Force airfield at Hobsonville Point.

While we're still waiting for the Fremantle brewery to inhabit the vintage Sunderland seaplane hangar — it's expected early February — Aucklanders will get a taste of the fruity beer movement at a less permanent offering this summer. Led by James Arnott of Cook Brothers Bars (The Glass Goose, La Zeppa), the Little Creatures Summer Pop-Up Bar is a new rooftop watering hole in the heart of the city.

The whereabouts of the beer garden has now been revealed as the old Fort Street Union building, which closed in September. The pop-up will hang around for three months to make the most of summer. There are whispers of giant backyard beer pong, bottomless bar snacks, colossal beer towers, wood-fired pizzas and of course a lineup of Little Creatures on tap.
