Overview

The Living Room will see central Auckland come alive with a diverse bunch of free lunchtime and evening interactive art and dance performances in Aotea Square and surrounds.

Some of the highlights include: Leading UK-based Susanne Thomas will perform Boxed in a Smith and Caughey’s window display. It recreates a dance work originally took place in three London department stores. This solo show taps into the voyeuristic curiosity of passersbys as they observe a dancer performing in a very public space.

No ordinary commuter experience, Back of the Bus, by Sacha Copland is a bus tour around Auckland accompanied by a troupe of highly energetic dancers who propel from the aisles and tumble and hang from the roof.

Medley is MaryJane O’Reilly’s selection of dance events featuring a selection of genres including kapa haka, revamped go-go dancing, a deconstructed hip-hop dance and sound item and marching girls among others.

New Zealand's premier BMX freestyle riders collaborate with nationally recognised choreographer MaryJane O'Reilly to perform BMX-Air, a wheeled ballet set to opera and Pacific drumbeat.
