Overview

From 3 to 7 March, 2014 the lovely folks at Sustainable Coastlines will be coordinating Love your Coast Waiheke Island, a large-scale education and beach clean-up to spruce up the epic stretch of coastline.

As part of Seaweek 2014 the organisation will be working with schools, community groups and businesses to deliver educational presentations about the evil of garbage and the effects on our beautiful environment. The week will culminate in a huge public event day this Saturday (March 8) from 8am – 2pm with clean-ups at locations all around the island.

How can you help? Well, Sustainable Coastlines are on the look out for volunteers to join the clean-up effort and for boats to ferry volunteers to hard-to-access beaches. Interested parties should register via http://sustainablecoastlines.org/. The first 150 to turn up get free lunch.

Following the clean-up all rubbish will be counted and categorised and materials separated will be put aside for school students to create artworks out of the rubbish. The entire project will be filmed and edited into a short film that will be displayed at the Waiheke Jazz Festival from 19-21 April 2014.
