American indie-rock group Luna were formed in the early '90s post-Velvet Underground New York by Wellington-born musician Dean Wareham. With a sound that signalled the early days of the genre, the group's disbandment in 2005 came as a surprise, but by then Luna had released seven mightily important albums and had laid a walk-able platform for later bands of a similar feel.

In 2014 it was announced that Luna would reform after a nine-year break.

With the original lineup including former Chills bassist Justin Harwood (also a New Zealander), it comes as a surprise that Luna has never actually performed to a Kiwi audience. Harwood will re-join his former band mates on September 19 for the band's first ever New Zealand gig. A homecoming of sorts, it promises to be a special night for the band and their New Zealand following, some of whom have been waiting over twenty years to see them in the flesh.

Luna will be supported by Auckland-based singer/songwriter Fazerdaze.
