Lunar New Year at SkyCity

SkyCity is set to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit with live entertainment and night noodle markets.

Overview

Lunar New Year is fast approaching and celebrations are kicking off in the CBD. SkyCity Auckland is going all out with its Lunar New Year celebrations to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit, bringing back its street festival and exciting events from Saturday, January 21 until Sunday, February 5.

The precinct's Federal Street will come to life on Saturday, January 21 and Sunday, January 22 with guzheng performances, panda and lion dancers and a rambunctious display of firecrackers to welcome a prosperous new year. And you'll want to look up —˜ the God of Good fortune will be descending a casual 192 metres from the A J Jacket Skyjump at 6pm on Sunday.

For those looking for traditional Chinese food, a night market will pop up under the Sky Tower on Sunday, January 29 and Sunday, February 5, with street vendors slinging noodles, dumplings, skewers and other tasty dishes. Bring the whole whanau and enjoy the atmosphere and live entertainment on offer.

If you really want to go all out, Chinese restaurant Huami will be offering a special set menu throughout the celebrations. For $109pp, you can enjoy a festive smorgasbord of peking duck, and tabasco prawns, in addition to delicacies such as wok-fried crayfish meat and tenderised abalone slices with black truffle. Also on the lineup: hand-drawn calligraphy demonstrations, an eye-dotting ceremony, a special QR code installation and more.
