Overview
Following hot on the heels of the New Zealand International Film Festival, comes the inaugural Mini British Film Festival. Playing at four Auckland cinemas (Rialto, Monterey, Bridgeway and Capitol) from 30 October to 13 November, the program offers a wide selection of authentic stories, exciting voices, and new visions from some of the most acclaimed talent Britain has to offer. Featuring a wealth of British acting royalty as well as great performances from up and coming British talent, there's a film for everyone to love.
Some highlights that you shouldn't miss include Fisherman's Friends, a rom-dram-comedy based on the true story of ten fishermen who accidentally hit the big time with an album of sea shanties. Meeting Gorbachev is a riveting doco by Werner Herzog and André Singer's based on the former General Secretary of the U.S.S.R. Starring Bill Nighy and Anette Benning, Hope Gap is a beautifully acted film about an older couple dealing with the breakdown of their marriage. Tell it to the Bees is based on a book by Fiona Shaw, telling the story of a single mother who strikes up a friendship with the village doctor. Liam Gallagher: As It Was follows the journey of the Oasis member's solo career, and The Elephant Man is David Lynch's 1980 classic about heavily disfigured John Merrick.
