Overview

Described as "an unholy matrimony between Sonic Youth and Le Tigre," Auckland punk band Miss June originally exploded onto New Zealand's alternative/punk scene with their ear-splittingly good EP Matriarchy.

This ten-minute masterpiece swells with the spirit and DIY musicality of the riot grrrl movement of the 90s, with its title track tearing strips off gender inequality thanks to furious riffs and blunt lyrics. Their energy and all-round badassery has seen them share the stage with Die! Die! Die!, The D4, Foo Fighters and Shellac to name but a few.

The band's latest single 'Twitch' couples a frenetic fuzz with wry, biting lyrics that only promise good things from their hotly anticipated debut album. They're performing at Whammy on Saturday, 8 December, joined by local upstarts P.H.F and Wellington's Bad Friend. Catch them before your mates do.
