Overview
Mount Michael is a boutique Central Otago winery known for causing rife with the local Catholic church, its Bessie's Block Pinot Noir, and cellar door tastings by helicopter. They don't really do things by halves.
Rather than hold one special tasting event, the winery is flying into Auckland for three. This May, the good folks from Mount Michael will make the journey up north for a series of pop-ups at Ponsonby Middle Eastern restaurant Gypsy Caravan. The first on May 2 will be an interactive evening with winemaker James McElrea as he pairs the glorious bounty from Mount Michael with a four-course degustation presented by chef Touvai Poloniati.
The second on June 4 will be a more laid back affair. Live acoustic music will fill the space while platter-style food will be paired with flights of wine. The final event on July 7 will kick things up a notch with winter themed Mount Michael vintages and music to warm the soul. A serving of Gypsy's pan-fried ouzo cheese also wouldn't go amiss.
