Overview

FAFSWAG is an artists collective from Auckland with offerings in the visual arts and performance spheres. The group's work often focuses on bringing to light a little known part of the Pacific Island culture and experience — that of the third gender or fa'afafine.

Theatre veteran and recent MIT graduate, Taleni Mapu (Mistress Moe Laga), is bringing FAFSWAG's acclaimed residency at Basement Theatre to an end with her piece, Neon Bootleg. It's a throwback to the '90s telling the story of Mistress Moe's youth growing up fa'afafine and promises a fascinating and at times humorous look into the life of a fascinating Aucklander.

"A ceremonial water-cleansing that revisits a period of '90s nostalgia usually off limits to my untrustworthy memories and wild imagination."

The venue, Basement Theatre, promises to make the experience even more confronting and interesting thanks to its intimate stage plot, and often dark lighting. This isn't your typical night at the theatre but take a chance and you'll be rewarded.
