Overview

If you've ever wanted to ride a heritage tram illuminated by twinkling fairy lights, you'll soon have the opportunity. Across three magical evenings this June (25–27), Western Springs' Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) is firing up its generators for Night Lights 2021.

The annual event sees the Museum's attractions come to life with brilliant light activations and installations to help combat the midwinter blues. As well as taking an after-dark ride on MOTAT's vintage railway, you'll see the glow of the blacksmith's forge while heating and shaping metals into objects and experience the power of a military-grade search light.

Live entertainment from dancers to daring fire performers will pop-up across the event, and there will be snacks and refreshments available on the night to purchase, including illuminated LED cotton candy.

As part of Māori New Year celebrations, there will be an arts and crafts station where visitors can learn how to fold paper Matariki stars. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children and seniors, and free for under 5s.
