Overview

Initially starting out as a short film night to celebrate the Pasifika film and multimedia industries, Pollywood has now blossomed into a full-blown, multi-genre festival, showcasing work from here and across the Pacific.

For its thirteenth year, Pollywood founder and local director Craig Fasi has hand-picked a diverse blend of nine short films for the programme. Among the selection is: Suni Man, a coming-of-age story following a young Samoan man who must choose between a stable life with his family, or an exciting one with his dangerous cousin; The Lei Makers, a comedic short about two women as they fight tooth-and-nail for customers at their lei stands; Islet, the first full Tuvalu language drama shot in Tuvalu; and Coral, a Samoan native noir tale of Tangaroa intrigue, death and mystery.

The opening will take place at the Mangere Art Centre Nga Tohu o Uenuku before screening in various locations around the city. The season will come to a close at Auckland Art Gallery on Thursday 26 November with a special after hours gallery screening. During the season various artists will be present to discuss their work, share insights and answer questions.
