Overview
The experimental space-pop songwriter who gave us the viral hit ‘The Cigarette Duet’ is back with a new album and will be hitting the road to celebrate.
Princess Chelsea's new album The Great Cybernetic Depression was recorded in her own studio and is based around the fabricated idea of social depression in the future, a metaphor for her own literal depression.
The 10-track record has been described as, "awash with lush, expansive electronica sounds, lent added nuance by a darkly baroque flair,” and more accurately to sound like “the soundtrack to the Neverending Story but slightly more '2015’.” It will be released on May 1 in a collaborative effort through local indie labels, Lil Chief Records and Flying Nun Records. Listen to already released singles over here.
The album follows Chelsea's 2011 effort Lil’ Golden Book which spun off singles: 'Yulia', 'Ice Reign' and 'The Cigarette Duet'. The nonchalant video for the latter is currently basking in upwards of 20 million views on Youtube.
To mark the release of The Great Cybernetic Depression, Princess Chelsea will embark on a five-date tour of New Zealand. In Auckland she will be joined by her live band and support acts Purple Pilgrims, Bespin and The Beths.
The shows will also be swiftly followed by a three month tour of Europe, beginning in Istanbul on May 10.
