Overview

For one night only this July some of the country's finest vocalists will join forces to take on the soundtracks of Quentin Tarantino. Country soul powerhouse Tami Neilson, dub vocalist Laughton Kora, Pluto frontman Milan Borich and Head Like a Hole rocker Booga Beazley will be backed by the Big Band Royale to reimagine hits from Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction.

With its soundtrack programmed by fictional DJ K-Billy for his 'Super Sounds of the Seventies radio show, Reservoir Dogs offset its on-screen violence with the grooves of 'Little Green Bag' by The George Baker Selection, 'Hooked on a Feeling' by Blue Swede and 'Stuck in the Middle with You' by Stealers Wheel.

Comparably, Tarantino curated a playlist of timeless soul to drive Pulp Fiction. The frantic surf guitar of Dick Dale's 'Misirlou', alongside Dusty Springfield's 'Son of a Preacher Man' and Chuck Berry's 'You Never Can Tell' helped to make the 1994 black comedy an instant classic.

The event will take place at Auckland's The Civic theatre on Saturday, July 10. Ticket holders are, of course, encouraged to dress up as their favourite Tarantino character.
