Overview

Brazil is coming to Auckland city this Saturday, February 22, in the form of the annual Rice and Beans Festival.

The free festival offers a smorgasbord selection of music, culture, art and food from South America.

Lead by Auckland’s favourite Brazilian Bobby Brazuka, the Mucho Aroha Music Showcase will feature a mint range of local and international DJs: Tamenpi (Rio de Janeiro), PG (Sao Paulo), Luiz Valente (Belo Horizonte), Latinaotearoa, Dubhead, Cian, Brazilian Divas, and AK Samba.

Besides music and food, Au Capoeira NZ, a branch of the Au Capoeira school in Brasil, will be performing in the grass at 2pm. The dance, which was originally developed by African slaves as a means of masking their self-defence training, is celebrated nowadays worldwide, even featuring in Hollywood films like Meet the Fockers, Step Up 3 and Ocean's Twelve.
