Overview

If you happen to glance out your window at precisely 8pm on 11.11.15 and see a small mob of flashing red lights bobbing through the city, do not be alarmed. Those lights will be attached to the arms of night runners.

When I moved to the city, my mother warned me against night time runs. Auckland's Run in the Dark may have to be the exception to this warning. Run in the Dark will see runners young and old take to the streets to fundraise for research to cure paralysis. The event is about possibilities not problems and is inspired by a world of empty wheel chairs. Blind from the age of 22 and paralysed from the waist down since the age of 34, event founder and ambassador Mark Pollock is living proof of mind over matter, and is on a mission to find and connect people around the world to fast-track a cure for paralysis.

Auckland will be one of 50 cities worldwide taking part in this multi-time-zoned event. The Auckland run is a pop-up event, which means you need to be quick off the mark to register, as there are limited spaces. So don your tank top, crew socks, head torch and delightful leg warmers, because running for a good cause is a reason for applause, and let’s face it, it will be too dark to see the poorly made outfit choices anyway.
