Overview

With all non-essential businesses in New Zealand set to close from midnight Wednesday, 25 March, local bars, restaurants and cafes are looking for ways to offload surplus produce and perishables. It has become a tradition that every festive season beloved South Indian restaurant Satya offers free meals to those in need. As the nation moves into lockdown for four weeks, two of the brand's Auckland establishments are handing out free curries. Visitors to the Satya website today will be able to order one curry with rice for takeaway.

The restaurant has said they will give away as much as they can produce while stock lasts. Limited amounts of chicken, lamb and vegetarian curry options are available. Simply add the free curry to your order, print out the receipt and visit the appropriate branch: Satya Ponsonby (17 Great North Road) or Satya Sandringham (515 Sandringham Road).

Customers can also add 30 samosa to their order for $80.

The stores will practise social distancing by enforcing a two-metre gap between customers. ⁣The curry and rice deal is free, but please think of paying it forward to vulnerable neighbours.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced the nationwide lockdown this week as the country moves to Alert Level 3 and then Level 4 in the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you're choosing to go out and support local businesses, have a look at the latest COVID-19 advice and social-distancing guidelines from the Ministry of Health.
