Overview

Before embarking on a solo career, acclaimed New Zealand songwriter Kody Nielson was the frontman of experimental pop-rock four-piece The Mint Chicks. After the band imploded in 2010, he released two albums worth of material under his own name and the Opossom pseudonym, co-wrote the latest album from Bic Runga, and produced albums for a handful of local acts.

The latest offering to come from Nielson is SILICON, an electronically charged project that dips its hand into the genre-bag of dance, neo-soul and psych. At this stage he has only released one single with the ‘on trend’ title of ‘God Emoji’. A full album is expected for release later this year through London-based indie label Weird World Record Co.

With some support slots lined up alongside his brother’s band Unknown Mortal Orchestra in the UK next month, SILICON will perform his first ever headline show in Auckland on May 1. He will be supported by Julian Dyne, Manuel Bundy and special guests.
