Overview

Never made the journey up Auckland's Sky Tower? Now's your chance to ride the glass elevator and cop a stunning view of the city for nothing more than a gold coin donation. On Friday, 3 August, New Zealand residents will be given the cut-price opportunity to visit the main observation deck 51 floors up (or 186 metres). All proceeds from the initiative will be donated to youth development organisation, Youthline.

Last year's free event attracted more than 7500 people. This will be the first time the concrete toothpick has introduced a gold coin donation day. Organisers behind the event are pulling out all the stops; there will be entertainment on the day including face painting, balloon twisting, a DJ and dancers.

The gold coin event will run from 9am until 9pm, with last queue entry at 7pm.
