Overview

Those who shed a quick lunchtime tear at the closure of artist-run cafe Small Fry, will be happy to note that for one day only, Miss Changy will be back in business.

In collaboration with Baby (Bestie's cooler cousin), owner Miss Changy will be giving Small Fry a re-boot on April 28. So far the menu is unknown, but we definitely know she'll be bringing two different sandwiches and her iconic kaya toast for us to snaffle.

But for those who never got to try Miss Changy's modern Chinese-Malaysian menu, here's a quick bit of background. Ruby Chang-Jet White, aka Miss Changy, Auckland Uni graduate, café owner, ceramicist and local heartbreaker has become a bit of a celebrity. Why? Well, her coconut curd is thick, creamy, nutty, fragrant and still had a hint of vanilla. And it was never too expensive. Small Fry's sandwich offerings ranged from 14-hour beef brisket to rainbow eggplant, forever breaking the mould and always offering a gluten-free option. Miss Changy's food provided warmth, comfort and strength when we needed it, and the whole community understood the excitement of her food.

So when those doors open on Sunday, 28 April, they may not be the same doors we're used to, but the food and the comfort it brings will feel like home. It's exciting Auckland, make sure you're there before the pop-up sells out.
