Overview
Following its successful debut run last year, the Southern Fork Americana Festival will make its return to Vector Arena’s dedicated folk and roots venue The Great South Pacific Tuning Fork. This year, the month-long festival has been promised to be an even slicker event, featuring a vast array of international and local artists within the meandering Americana genre.
Acts confirmed in the lineup include: L.A. based folk-rock band Dawes, Texas country-rock duo Jamestown Revival, and Aussie bogan boogie band Wagons, in what will be their last performance for the foreseeable future.
Opening the festival on Saturday, October 10 will be troubadour rock ‘n’ roll six-piece Skyscraper Stan and The Commission Flats. Fronted by lanky Kiwi ex-pat Stan Woodhouse, a man once described as "wet cement channeling Nick Cave," the group are known for their unique take on the 'Southern Americana' sound, blending observant lyricism with rock 'n' roll and the big band sound of New Orleans. In addition to the amalgamation of styles, concert-goers can expect an energetic set complete with howling, copious hand gestures and dance moves like a "drowning huntsman."
Joining the festival launch will be alt-country act Dead Little Penny with their haunting love songs and tales of sex, drugs and debauchery, harmonious folk-bluegrass duo Brendon & Alison Turner, and Americana band The Miltones.
