Overview

Ah the 90s, the decade that brought us The Spice Girls, jelly sandals and everybody's favourite sitcom Friends. A glorious time for pop culture and in 1994 the invention that would change the way we thought about outdoor cinema for years to come. No longer at the mercy of drive-in theatres and doing away with the backseat snog (not to mention the extra carbon emissions) the inflatable screen was born. With that in mind what better film to enjoy in the fresh air than the 1993 box office hit Cool Runnings. Based on a true - albeit famously embellished - story of the Jamaican bobsled team who took the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics by storm, Cool Runnings has become a bit of a pop culture classic. Featuring the very loveable John Candy, of Home Alone fame this is quite the quirky take on your average story of the underdog.

The film will be showing on a big outdoor screen, since Auckland has finally cottoned on to a good thing and come to the realisation that yes, films, street food and outdoor gatherings are a match made in heaven. Usually reserved for those long summer nights, this is the perfect excuse to grab a blanket and snuggle up with a loved one for some winter time PDA.

The free film screening kicks off at 7pm, with food available to purchase from 5.30pm onwards, my advice would be to get there early for a good spot on the grass and if you are a University of Auckland student bring take along your ID for some free popcorn.
