Overview

This year's New Zealand Music Month will also mark the last time Tahuna Breaks ever take to the stage as a group.

Conceived as an instrumental project in hard-rock bar Deschlers over a decade ago, the band have since been recognised for their effortless ability to meld musical genres and styles; a sound that encompasses funk, disco, soul, live electronics and roots. They have released three full-length albums, including their debut album Reflections (2007), Black Brown & White (2009) and Shadow Light (2013) which was recorded under the guidance of UK producers Crazy P. As well as being a staple act on the summer touring circuit, the band have ticked off performances at festivals Big Day Out, Rhythm and Vines, Homegrown and Highlife.

Ahead of their final performance at the Studio on K' Road, the seven-piece released a statement saying, "After having the privilege of writing and performing our music to an amazing audience for the last 12 years, we have decided to retire as a band and will be performing our final ever show this May. Our experiences during this time together have far exceeded our expectations, and we feel that time has come for the band to acknowledge its natural conclusion, giving us the opportunity to focus on our individual lives and ambitions."
